Architecture and Urbanism in Film: Narrative Film as a Medium for Analyzing and Visualizing Building


課程敘述：
This course will use narrative films as the basis for analyzing and visualizing architecture and urbanism. Each week, a film will be screened from an international filmography that includes works by directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, F.W. Murnau, Charles Dassin, Fritz Lang, Gillo Pontecorvo, Wim Wenders and Wayne Wang. Following their screenings, the films will be discussed based on analytical exercises given at the start of class meetings. They will also be interpreted for use in the visualization of students’ architectural or planning projects or of buildings or cities that students select through discussion with the instructor.
There are no course readings; the films serve as the course’s “texts.” Students have choice between animations and storyboards, the latter developed from media selected through discussion with the instructor.
